I have a thing for buildings; however, I have a bigger thing for retro buildings. However, like any other guy, I like to blow things up!
A Las Vegas landmark, well for the last 48 years, which is a lifetime in Vegas terms, is no more. The Stardust hotel was blown up – in a controlled explosion at 2h30 this morning.
One of many images from my first visit to Las Vegas in August 2006:

And without further ado, what you’ve all been waiting for…the video…Only in LV can they turn something like this into entertainment. Check it out:

Everybody loves free stuff, especially me. It’s especially easy to get free stuff on your birthday. I occasionally visit RedFlagDeals.com where there is a post for free stuff on your birthday. Luckily for me, today is my birthday.
For the last two years, I’ve gone to What A Bagel to get my free dozen bagels which I shared with folks in my office.

This year, I even decided to eat one. It doesn’t exactly work with my raw food diet, but I don’t worry about it too much.

It gave me an upset stomach shortly after I ate it. It didn’t taste as good as the Montreal style bagel that I had when I was in Montreal for a Couchsurfing event last weekend – everything just seemed to taste better there. But that’s another post for another day.
Today, was also a lucky day for me. I also won a Cadillac Fairview $50 gift card. Luck counts.

Well, only during my commute to work. When I stepped outside, there were giant snowflakes coming down! They had stopped by the time I arrived at work.
Another shot of an on-going obsession with streetcar shelters…

Earlier this week…

Saturday evening dessert, chocolate terrine, at Fressen, an upscale and chic Vegan restaurant in Toronto.
However, if you want good value, the above costs about the same or maybe even a little bit more than the meal below:

Plus this:

Costs this much:

=Good value.
However, according to Now Magazine, both places are favorites among Torontonians.

A garbage pile in Asia’s largest slum, Dharavi. Located in Mumbai, India, Dharavi has over 6 million of the estimated 20 million people in Mumbai.
On my way to work last week, my neighbour told me a new word (for me), depletist. According to most definitions found on the Internet, a depletist may describe:
- An individual or group showing apparent, negligent or reckless disregard for the environmental consequences of their actions.
- An individual or group that exhausts non-renewable resources and rejects positive environmental strategies.
However, some of us think we’re environmental, however, just by being consumers, especially of cheap goods from third world countries, we are depletists and, in turn, we are causing others to be depletists. The scourage of the first world is passing the torch.
People, and especially the media, are talking about it but not really doing anything about it. Margaret Wente of the Globe and Mail newspaper states that China is building a coal plant every week and putting one thousand new cars on the road daily. We started this by wanting a lower cost of living by demanding cheap goods. We started it, we can stop it. Let’s shed our defeatist attitude. Think before you buy.

Here’s another time lapse video. This one from Andrea and Justin’s housewarming party. They were nice enough to let me setup my gear at their party. A fun result as always! Check out more videos on the link to the right.

My latest passion is time-lapse photography. After acquring a new digital camera a few months ago, I’ve been experimenting with the interval photgraphy feature in the software of the camera. This is my latest clip of a monthly raw food potluck in Kensington Market:
